Makeup DIY: Kate Middleton

Do you want to know how many brides have asked for the Kate Middleton wedding makeup look since The Royal Wedding? One hundred percent. Yesiree, it’s a popular look now, and it has been reported Kate did it herself! Props to her, she did look beautiful. Personally, I would have done it a little differently, but whatever floats your boat, Kate.

This is a beautiful look, but let’s be honest, it’s not going to suit everyone for their wedding day. Be sure to leave yourself in the hands of a professional (like me!) to recommend what is best going to suit you personally for your wedding day, but if you want to try her look for a special occasion, here’s how you might go about it:

EYES:

I  recommend doing your eyes first, as you will be using quite dark colours and you’re very likely to have shadow fallout. Why clean up your foundation and reapply, when you could simply get it nice and cleaned up and then apply your foundation to a clean slate.

Apply a matte shell colour all over your eyelids, up to your brows as a base. Next, take a soft matte brown shadow and apply to your eyelid socket, blending as you go. Then, using a coal colour, apply densely at the lashline, and work up lightly to the crease. Try Maybelline Expert Wear eye shadow quad in Mocha Motion, $16.95

Line your top lash line with a black pencil liner and smudge well. This is the beginnings of creating your smokey eye. Try Gorgeous Cosmetics eye pencil in Black Jack, $25.00 (email me to order, and mention this post for a 10% discount)

Deepen the top line with a very thin liquid line all along the top lashline and continue underneath. Try M.A.C Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner, $32.00

Curl your lashes and apply mascara twice for thick, luscious lashes. Try Model-Co Turbo Lash Wand, $35.00 and Lash Extend mascara, $28.00

EYEBROWS:

Kate has quite dark, thick brows in a very natural shape. Use an angle brush and some deep brown eyeshadow to fill in, extend and thicken your brows where necessary to achieve the same look. Remember, the world is your oyster when it comes to eyebrows – your own natural brows are simply a starting point. Try Benefit Brow Zings brow shaping kit in medium/dark, $30.00 (includes two colours, brush and tweezers)

FACE:

First, of course prime your skin. Try Estee Lauder Face Primer Plus Illuminating Base, $42.00

Use a heavy coverage hi-definition foundation and powder well. Try Gorgeous Cosmetics Base Perfect, $65.00 and Gorgeous Cosmetics Powder Perfect, $65.00 (email me to order, and mention this post for a 10% discount)

Apply a generous sweeping of a deep pink blush along your cheek bones, blending up to your temples and swipe your apples gently with the leftovers on your brush. Be sure to use a full blush brush without too much density, so you don’t go too hardcore with the colour. It’s best to build it up than have to take it away. Try Napoleon Perdis Blushing mosaic, $60.00

LIPS:

A nice pink-nude lipstick will finish off your Kate Middleton bridal makeup look splendidly! You can also apply a gloss over the top if you like. Try Harlotte Cosmetics lipstick in Exposed, $30.00 and Lipshine, $28.00 (email me to order, and mention this post for a 10% discount)

So there you have it, you will be looking like a Duchess yourself in no time. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask below in the comments, and if you try the look, put your pic on facebook and tag me! I am personally going to do the same and post it on my Facebook and Twitter sometime in the next week, so stay tuned…
