There’s this thing that’s being said that I believe to be a bit of a porkie pie. Said thing that’s being, well, said, is that in the latest Louis Vuitton Core Values campaign, the subject, Angelina Jolie, has been shot without the professional help of a wardrobe stylist, hair stylist or… makeup artist. In fact, they are actually claiming she is makeup free. Ahem.
Okay, I am willing to believe she is wearing her own clothes. I will even accept her mane simply assembles itself so. (I’m sure a few hair stylists will have a thing or two to say about that, but I’m leaving it alone.) However, being somewhat of a makeup enthusiast, since it’s my profession and what-not, I point blank refuse to believe there is not a scrap of makeup on that face.
Well, I don’t know, let’s have a closer look, shall we?
At first glance, I can see almost a full charcoal smokey eye, some contouring and I find it very hard to believe her lips are naturally that smooth and peach in colour.
Having said that, of course there is some hardcore retouching of the photograph itself going on here, true to photographer Annie Leibovitz’s painted fantasy-like style. So it’s difficult to decipher which of the effects are pre-production and which are post-production.
What do you think? Do you like the – ahem – “natural” look of the Angelina pic, or do you prefer the much more glam looks with celebs like Scarlett Johansson and Laetitia Casta?

I think all of the above photos are beautiful, but maybe we should petition Louis and Annie to keep all of the makeup artists, wardrobe stylists and hair stylists in work? Let me know in the comments what you think.
